Geely's eVTOL AE200 has successfully completed its first public test flight, perfectly demonstrating the AE200's full tilt flight capability
Today, at Chengdu Huaizhou Airport, the electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) AE200 developed by Chengdu High tech Zone enterprise Jilvo Feichangkong Technology Development Co., Ltd. successfully completed its first public test flight. This flight demonstrated the full tilt flight capability of AE200, marking an important step forward for Wofei Changkong in the field of electric aircraft.
The AE200 aircraft adopts advanced tilt rotor technology, which features electrification, intelligence, vertical takeoff and landing, low noise, high efficiency, zero emissions, etc., ensuring safe and reliable flight performance. During the test flight, the AE200 successfully completed the tilt angle change from 90 ° to 0 ° and then back to 90 °, demonstrating the dynamic flight status of the full tilt configuration, ultimately achieving safe takeoff and smooth landing.
Although the appearance configuration of AE200 is still similar to that of traditional fuel helicopters, AE200 does not have the propellers of traditional fuel helicopters. Instead, it has fixed wings on both sides and 8 rotors. When it rises vertically from the ground, all 8 rotors bring lift upwards. After reaching the predetermined altitude, 4 of the rotors will tilt at a certain angle to become "thrusters", driving AE200 to fly horizontally forward.
The AE200 still needs to undergo a series of extreme environment tests and flight tests, including high and low temperature tests, as well as reliable verification of maximum speed flight and braking, emergency fault handling, etc., to ensure the completion of airworthiness certification work around 2026 and officially enter the mass production and commissioning stage.
It is worth mentioning that the Chengdu Huaizhou Airport, where the flying car publicly demonstrated its flight, was approved to set up the first stepped low altitude airspace a month ago. This means that the original maximum area of low altitude airspace in Sichuan Province at Chengdu Huaizhou Airport will be tripled in flight altitude, achieving a leap in the quality of the airport's core resources. Sun Haifeng, the General Manager of the Comprehensive Department of Chengdu General Airport Operation Management Co., Ltd., stated that this airspace optimization adopts professional technical methods, forming the first hierarchical and refined low altitude airspace planning model in China, which can maximize the satisfaction of different users' flight needs and add new impetus to the low altitude economic development of Sichuan.
